Admission into Royal HIgh School Honors and Advanced Placement program is available to all students who meet the requirements. There is an appeal process so that all students are offered the opportunity to enter these rigorous programs.
Admission into the Honors/Advanced Placement program in English will be granted if the student meets the following teacher approval requirements:
- Overall GPA of 3.00 or higher.
- English/Language CST score at Proficient (380+) or Advanced.
- Teacher Recommendation.
A writing sample will be required if one of the above requirements is not met.
Admission into the Honors/Advanced Placement program in Social Science will be granted if the student meets the following teacher approval requirements:
- Overall GPA of 3.00 or higher.
- English/Language CST score at Proficient (380+) or Advanced.
- Successful completion of a writing sample.
In both the English and Social Science departments, if the student is still not accepted into the program, he/she can appeal to the Principal. During the summer, the Principal will provide another opportunity for the student to earn the right to enter the program. The student will complete a timed essay that will be evaluated by three members of the staff.
Admission into the Honors/Advanced Placement programs in Mathematics, Science , Foreign Language and the Performing & Fine Arts will be determined by the grades in prerequisite classes and teacher recommendations. An appeal process is available upon request to the Principal that will include a conference with the parent, student, department chairperson, and the Principal's desginee.
