The time: 1985 The Place: Courtland High School and the Arden Mall

Characters:

ROSALIND DUKE - A high school senior – she's studious and always plays everything safe until she dresses as a frat dude named “Corey.” She transforms from scared to invincible, then ultimately to honest and open. She is smart and funny, and can quickly change back and forth between being a guy and a girl.

CELIA DUKE - Rosalind's cousin and best friend. Also a high school senior, she is feisty and clever, if not too book smart. She knows she's adorable and uses that to her advantage. She has to play an alter ego at the mall, a Madonna-wannabe named LaDonna. Has a saucy edge.

ORLANDO BATEMAN - A senior varsity wrestler with the soul of a poet. Super popular but wants people to know him beyond the superficial.

OLIVER BATEMAN - Orlando's resentful 19-year-old brother and truancy officer at the high school. Initially the villain, he gets a makeover and radiates beauty both inside and out.

WALTER "TOUCHTONE" JAMES - High school junior. Learns that love is more than physical.

AUDREY SHEPHERD - High school senior. The Queen Bee. Insufferable rich bully, she is secretly more vulnerable than anyone else in the story.

PHIL LIPSCHITZ - A senior, a workstudy employee at “Sausage on a Stick,” very sweet and naïve.

SYLVIE FELDMAN - Phil's best friend, a senior, also workstudy at “Sausage on a Stick,” desperately in love with Phil. Comedienne who can play heartbreak.

JACKIE WEST - Ageless, bitter and sardonic rocker . She's the lead singer of "The Seven Stages of Man," the band that plays the dance at the mall.

ENSEMBLE: Vulnerable freshmen, Audrey’s minions (Mallory & Tiffany), jocks, geeks, rich kids, and  other students at school and the mall.
