Sue Guy began her career in education at Mission Viejo High School in Orange County where she worked as a counselor.  She and her family moved Olympia, Washington, where she was employed at Tumwater High School as a special education teacher and as a counselor.  Mrs. Guy joined the Simi Valley Unified School District in 2004 and was a counselor at Sinaloa and Hillside MIddle Schools prior to coming to Royal.

Heather Lyle began her teaching career in 1999, teaching Spanish and World History.  She taught for  five years at Santa Susana High School in Simi Valley, before coming to Royal High School.

She is very happy to be at Royal and looks forward to working here for many years to come

Upon graduating with her BA from ASU, Mrs. Ruppert worked as an early interventionist, providing therapy and social services to families with children diagnosed with developmental disabilities. Although very rewarding, she branched out to work with adolescents and adults with disabilities as a vocational case manager, assisting individuals with their transition to successful members of the work force. Her love for helping others drove her to further her career when she went back to school to receive her Master in Education and School Counseling. 

Since then, she has enjoyed being a school counselor in both Arizona and southern California where she counseled students of all ages from elementary to high school. Most recently coming from middle school, Jennifer is excited to embark on another journey working with high school students again and join her new family at Royal.

Mrs. Ruppert looks forward to assisting students and their families in achieving their high school goals and accomplishing their ultimate future ambitions.

John Burton came to Royal High School in 2006 and has twenty-eight years of experience in education as a counselor, college professor and college football coach.  He has worked as a Special Education counselor at J.F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, CA.  Prior to that, he was employed in Indiana as a counselor at both Anderson and Bishop Chatard High Schools. He has taught in the teacher credential program and coached for four years at California Lutheran University. Dr. Burton also has experience as a youth counselor in the California Youth Authority. He has also coached football in Lund, Sweden and has been the athletic counselor at both Pierce College and Moorpark College.

Dr. Burton loves to spend time with his wife and four children. They enjoy traveling around the country in their RV and camping on the beach. In his spare time he continues to give back to the community by coaching football and using it as a vehicle to help shape young men’s lives. He is pleased to be a Highlander and looks forward to hopefully making a difference.

Katrina DuVal comes to us from the Los Angeles Unified School District where she taught 6th grade English/Social Studies and ESL for three years.  She was also a middle counselor for two years. Upon receiving the news she would be joining the rest of the Highlanders, Mrs. DuVal was ecstatic because she had heard so many wonderful things about the students, parents and staff of Royal High School.

Mrs. DuVal knew at an early age she wanted to pursue a career in education.  She loves working with students on a daily basis.  In her opinion, she has the best job.  She has enjoyed being a part of the Royal family and looks forward to the years to come.

She  lives in Newbury Park with
her husband and their young son.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and son, visiting with friends and family, traveling, reading, scrap booking, shopping, movies, and attending concerts with her husband.
